Got called out for reusing passwords and it stung

A buddy who works in IT security saw me log into my bank account and asked if I used that password anywhere else. I said probably yeah and he just stared at me. He pulled up haveibeenpwned dot com right there and showed me my email got leaked in like 3 different data breaches from 2019 alone. That was two years ago and now I use a password manager with unique 16 character passwords for every site. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on something like this and actually change their habits?

My friend from college who does cybersecurity basically did the same thing to me. He made me check my email and I had over 20 exposed passwords from different breaches. The one that really got me was seeing my email in the LinkedIn breach from way back. I dumped all my old passwords that night and now I use Bitwarden with randomly generated 20 character passwords for everything. Did it take you a while to stop forgetting your master password?

Seeing those breach alerts really makes you realize how everything online is just held together with duct tape and hope.

Is it really that big of a deal if nothing's happened yet?
