I caught a suspicious text message trying to get my bank info last week

Now I double-check any unexpected messages by calling the company directly.

Isn't calling the number you find online sometimes just as risky? I saw this story where scammers set up fake customer service lines that show up in search results. If you just google the bank's number, you might get one of those fake lines. I feel way safer using the contact info from the back of my actual card or the official app. That extra step seems better than trusting a random number you find, lol.

Hey, what about checking the number on your monthly statement too?

Wait, that's actually the right move. Searching online is the risky part. The number on your card or statement is the real one. Calling that is safe. The scammer can't fake the number printed by your bank. So googling is the problem, not calling. Always use the number you already have from a real document.
