My kid's tablet started showing ads for things I'd only talked about near it

I finally checked the app permissions and saw it had microphone access for a game they downloaded. Has anyone else found a sneaky app listening when it shouldn't be?

Seriously, did you find that setting in the app store or deep in the device settings? I've heard some permissions only show up in one place, which is a huge pain.

That flashlight app thing still gets me - did you ever find a way to check if those permissions actually stayed off after an app update, or did you just have to recheck them every time?

Ugh, that's so creepy, right? I went through this last year with a flashlight app. You have to go into your tablet's settings, not just the app, and manually turn off the mic permission for everything that doesn't absolutely need it. It's annoying but it stops the ads. I also uninstalled any app that asked for mic access for no good reason.
