My sister's hacked fitness tracker showed me how vulnerable health data is
I was helping my sister with her new fitness tracker app last month, and she used a simple password she had for other sites... A few days later, she got strange messages asking for more personal health info. It made me realize how many people don't think about securing their health apps. As a nurse, I see patients using sleep or diet apps that store sensitive stuff like heart rates or meal logs. If that data gets out, it could be used in wrong ways. So, I've started telling friends to use strong, unique passwords for any health related app. Also, turning on two factor authentication if the app offers it... it's a small step that really helps. Honestly, protecting your health data online should be as basic as locking your front door.

You're right about protecting health data being like locking your door. But what scares me is what happens after someone picks the lock. That health info isn't just for spam. If your sister's data got out, it could be used to deny her life insurance or a job. A heart rate trend could be called a "pre existing condition" by some companies. It gets real. We lock doors to keep bad stuff from happening inside. With this, the bad stuff happens to your future.
