Picked a paid password manager over free options
Everyone in this sub always pushes the free password managers like Bitwarden. I went with 1Password instead about 8 months ago. Yeah it costs me $36 a year but the shared vaults with my wife made switching so easy. Has anyone else had better luck with paid tools over the free stuff?

Did the shared vaults actually work smoothly from day one or did you run into some hiccups syncing everything over? I keep hearing people say the paid ones are way better for couples but nobody ever gets into the messy setup part. My partner and I have totally different systems for organizing logins and I can already see that being a nightmare to merge.

Regarding the shared vaults question, I kept my own login tags and categories when I moved stuff in and they stayed intact. The trick is to set up the shared vault first as a clean empty space, then just drag logins you both need into it one at a time. My wife and I have totally different naming schemes for our personal stuff and it never got messed up. The only hiccup I hit was that 1Password sometimes doesn't play nice if you try to move a login that has custom fields or attachments attached to it. So I had to re-add a couple bank sites manually because the file uploads got lost in the move.

Did you have to manually re-categorize everything when you merged, or did 1Password figure out the shared structure on its own? I'm curious if the app forces you into one organization style or if you can keep your separate systems intact inside the shared vaults. Because that alone would make or break the whole couples setup for me.
