That "never reuse passwords" advice from my old IT guy finally clicked

Back in 2012 my coworker Dave at the hospital kept nagging me about reusing the same password for everything, and I shrugged it off until my gaming account got hit and they drained my PayPal for $340. Has anyone else had a breach that only hurt because you ignored someone's basic warning for years?

Honestly, unless you're using the same password for your email and bank, most breaches are just an inconvenience and your bank will usually refund you anyway. The whole "never reuse" thing sounds more like a scare tactic from IT guys who love their job more than it's worth.
