The comment from a server admin that made me patch my own stuff faster
Back in February I was helping a buddy with his small business server setup, just basic stuff, updates and firewall rules. He pointed out that I was waiting too long between security patches, saying 'you always treat updates like chores, but that's where the real risk lives'. He showed me his log of past hacks and most hit systems that were months behind. That feedback stuck with me, so I changed my whole routine to set a recurring alarm every 2 weeks for patching all my gear, home and work. I also started checking the CVE listings before I update, so I know what's actually urgent. It feels less overwhelming now and I catch little things early. Has anyone else gotten a similar push from a colleague or friend that totally flipped their patch schedule?
