Disagree with the one-liner crowd, pun chains deserve more respect

I tried telling a three-part pun chain at the showdown last Friday at Joe's Diner. Instead of laughs, I got groans and a guy named Mark told me to stick to one-liners. I learned that this group favors quick punchlines over clever buildup, so I'm saving my chain puns for a different crowd. Has anyone else had better luck with a pun chain in another venue?

Oh man, I don't think it's that pun chains are bad, I think it's just the wrong crowd for sure. Maybe try a dive bar or an open mic night where people are more into wordplay than quick hits.

Best part about pun chains is they force people to actually listen to the whole joke instead of just scrolling past. The setup and payoff gets lost when everyone's just waiting for their turn to speak. Ever notice how pun chains hit harder in smaller groups where people actually feed off each other?
