Forgot my own rule about pun review and almost bombed the weekly challenge

I always pre-read my jokes out loud before posting them here, but last Tuesday I got lazy and submitted a pun about a broken pencil before testing it. Turned out the delivery landed completely flat because I messed up the setup line, and nobody even got it. Has anyone else had a joke backfire because you skipped the rehearsal step?

Three whole days of your life wasted over a pun that fell flat? I bombed a joke about a horse walking into a bar last month because I rushed the punchline and nobody got it either. It was embarrassing for about 10 seconds, then everyone moved on. You're acting like you lost a comedy competition on national TV, not a weekly pun thread on some forum.

Hey Cameron, I get what you're saying but I think you're being a little harsh on them. We've all had those moments where something we thought was clever just completely tanks and it stings worse than it should, even on a silly forum thread.
