Just realized I've been telling the number joke wrong my whole life

So I was at my nephew's birthday party last Saturday and I told the old 'Why is 6 afraid of 7' joke. This 8 year old kid looks at me and says 'Because 7 ate 9, but that doesn't work because 8 ate 10 is actually funnier.' I mean, he had a point. Now I'm wondering if I've been butchering dad jokes for decades without even knowing it. Anyone else ever get called out by a kid for a joke you thought was perfect?

Wait you've been telling the number joke wrong this whole time?

William says "the whole time" like it was some big revelation. Reminds me of when I spent two years telling people a pun about a horse walking into a bar and the bartender saying "why the long face" but I had the horse saying "I'm depressed" instead. Everyone just nodded along. Nobody told me until my cousin finally broke it to me at a family dinner. Still think my version works better honestly.

Feel your pain, I messed up the punchline for years before someone corrected me too.
