The pun-off at the county fair went off the rails, literally

Went to the state fair last Saturday and the dad joke stage had a mic that kept cutting out. Some guy in a straw hat nailed a train pun, crowd roared, then the speaker died mid-punchline. How do you salvage a setup like that without looking like you choked?

Man, that's the real tragedy, nobody ever remembers the good puns, only the dead mic! He should've just pointed at the speaker and said "that joke was so bad, the sound itself quit on it.
