Tried a pun competition at my school assembly and got crickets instead of laughs
I thought my seventh graders would love a dad joke battle during Friday's assembly, so I kicked it off with one about a broken pencil having no point. The whole cafeteria went dead silent for like ten seconds before a kid in the front row said 'Mr. Walker, that was painful.' Should I just stick to math jokes from now on or keep trying to force the dad humor on them?

Jumping in late but I switched to knock-knock jokes and they actually groaned louder which felt like a win.

Wait, people actually groaned louder for knock-knock jokes? That's wild to me @felix_hayes64. I tried those once at a family thing and my uncle just stared at me like I had three heads. Maybe I was doing it wrong. What kinds of knock-knock jokes were you using that got actual groans?

Wow, actual groans? That's impressive in its own weird way. I half expected you to say they just stared at you in silence.
