Update: my 8 year old's "boring" knock knock joke won 3 weeks straight at our house, and I think the fancy puns are overrated
Three weeks ago I started a Friday night joke night at dinner in our garage, and my son told the same plain "Interrupting Cow" joke each time while I brought out my 20 minute setup puns about cheese and furniture. He won the family vote 4 to 1 every single week, mostly because my wife and daughter laugh at the moo before he even gets to the punchline. Is it just my crowd, or does a short dumb joke with one big pause beat a clever pun every time?
