Hot take: my $18 drip pot at home beat my old $200 machine, and the change happened in 3 days
I used to run a fancy machine every single morning and my mug always tasted flat and a little burnt, so I gave up and got a cheap drip pot from a shop in Denver for $18. The first day was rough and watery, but by day 3 something clicked when I started weighing the grounds at 22 grams for 12 ounces of water. I also stopped buying pre-ground and got a $40 hand grinder, which made the biggest jump of all. Last month I did a side by side with the old machine and two friends picked my cheap setup both times without knowing which was which. Maybe it's just me but the grind size and a quick stir in the filter basket did more than any machine ever could. Has anyone else gone backwards on gear and ended up with a better cup, or am I fooling myself here?
