I finally tried blooming my coffee grounds before brewing

Read a barista in Austin say allowing grounds to sit with a little hot water for 30 seconds before pouring the rest cuts bitterness. Tried it with my $20 Mr. Coffee and the difference was honestly way bigger than I expected anyone else notice smoother results from this simple step?

Hold up @the_hayden, isn't blooming more like letting coffee grounds "wake up" so they release gas evenly? I tried it last week on a janky drip machine and the cup came out way cleaner tasting, no more of that burnt edge. It's a small step but it really changes the whole brew for the better.

Sort of like degassing a soda before you chug it.
