My French press went from muddy to clear after I switched grind sizes
I was using a medium grind for months and always got sludge at the bottom, then a barista told me to go coarser and now my coffee is clean after just two tries. Has anyone else had that kind of sudden shift from changing one thing?

That bit about "sludge at the bottom" hit home because it's the same kind of thing I've noticed with other stuff like using a cheap knife that always tears bread, then you switch to a serrated one and it cuts perfect every time. It's funny how we get used to a bad result and just assume that's the way it is, when really it's just one tiny setting or tool that's off. I think a lot of everyday problems are like that, where we live with the sludge for months because we don't even think to try something simple. Good on that barista for pointing you in the right direction.

My husband had this old blender that left chunks no matter how long you ran it, finally got a cheap immersion blender and it was night and day, same deal with my mom's coffee maker she thought was broken but the carafe just had a crack she never noticed. Kelly_craig mentioned the knife thing and it's the exact same stubbornness, we just accept bad results because we're too busy to swap one part out. So many little frustrations are just one swapped tool away from being fine and we never think to try it.

Right @graydavis, the knife thing is a perfect example, it's wild how we just shrug and deal with garbage results.
