My uncle swore by adding a pinch of salt to his coffee grounds every morning
He told me it cuts the bitterness better than sugar, so I tried it last week with my cheap grocery store beans and it actually worked, has anyone else heard of this trick or did I just get lucky?

Salt in coffee sounds like something my grandpa would make up just to mess with me.

Right, "salt in coffee sounds like something my grandpa would make up just to mess with me" ... but isn't that just how we treat half the good advice from older people? I feel like so many weird little tricks we ignore are just things people figured out before everything got so polished and perfect. You try it once on a bad cup of burnt diner coffee and it actually cuts that bitter edge ... it's weird but it works. It's like the same way my mom would put a pinch of sugar in spaghetti sauce to fix the acid, you'd think she was crazy until you taste the difference. We just get so used to everything being branded and boxed that we forget there's all these random hacks people picked up by accident. Makes you wonder what other little life fixes we're all pretending don't exist.
