Shoutout to the barista at Brewed Awakening who fixed my pour-over technique

Honestly, I was at Brewed Awakening last Tuesday and this barista named Jenna saw me struggling with my V60 pour-over. She came over and showed me how to pour in a slow spiral instead of just dumping water in the middle. She said "the water needs to kiss the coffee, not smother it" and I laughed but tried it. My morning cup at home tastes way better now, no more bitter notes. Has anyone else had a coffee shop employee change your whole routine?

Is it really that deep though? I mean, pouring water in a circle instead of dumping it sounds like common sense, not some life changing revelation. I've had baristas tell me stuff too and half the time it makes zero difference when you get home and your grinder is inconsistent anyway. Glad you got a better cup but let's not act like she unlocked the secrets of the universe over here.

Yeah I used to be on the same side as you honestly. I'd hear people rave about barista tips and figured it was just placebo or whatever. But then a barista at my local spot showed me how to do a pulse pour on my Aeropress. Instead of dumping all the water in at once, you pour a bit, let it bloom, pour some more, let it settle, then top it off. I tried it at home the next morning and the cup was noticeably cleaner and sweeter. It wasn't some huge breakthrough but it fixed a problem I didn't even know I had. Have you ever tried adjusting your pouring technique or do you stick with the same method no matter what?
