That $90 burr grinder I bought off an auction site arrived with fake ceramic burs
Spent $90 on a used grinder from an online auction in Portland and the burrs were painted plastic, my morning brew tasted like sawdust for 4 days before I tore it apart, anyone else get burned by auction site coffee gear?

Painted plastic, that's just unbelievable. I've seen some shady stuff on auction sites before, but faking ceramic burrs takes a special kind of nerve. You paid decent money thinking you were getting a real upgrade and instead got something that probably costs less than a bag of beans. The sawdust taste part really got me, because that means you drank four cups of ground up plastic coating before figuring it out. I hope you left a detailed feedback so nobody else falls for that same trap. That's the kind of thing that makes me want to stick to buying new gear from actual stores, no matter the deal.

Fair point @finley_price24, but I'd still roll the dice on auctions for deals. Buyer protection helps.
