Tried cold brew concentrate, got a cup of pure mud

I followed a 1:4 ratio with coarse ground coffee from that shop on Broad Street and let it steep for 18 hours in the fridge, and the result was so thick and bitter I had to add half a cup of water just to choke it down, so has anyone else hit this wall with homemade concentrate or do I need to dial back to 1:8?
