Drew a dog with a pencil today and it came out looking more like a potato with legs.

I tried shading with my left hand instead of my right and the whole anatomy went sideways. Has anyone else switched hands on purpose just to see what happens, or am I the only one who ends up with a mutant pet?

You're not alone, but I actually think there's something worth learning from those mutant sketches. My best pieces started as mistakes I just kept pushing forward.
