Found a weird detail in my sketch of the old train station downtown...

I was drawing the brickwork on the east side of Union Station this afternoon and noticed the mortar lines don't line up between the first and second floor... it's like they built it in two different decades. Has anyone else caught strange patterns in buildings you've doodled?

Wait wait, hold on. Are you serious? That's such a crazy detail to just stumble on while sketching, like how does that even happen with a building that old lol.

Stumble on while sketching" gets me thinking though. Maybe it was never meant to be seen from the ground. Like maybe the architect put it there as a secret marker or joke for people working on the roof or window washers. I remember reading about old buildings where builders would hide little carvings or symbols in spots nobody could see without a ladder or scaffolding. Could be something like that.
