I tried to save money on art markers, big regret

Bought a 24 pack of some no-name markers for 15 bucks on Amazon instead of the Copics I wanted. They dried out after 3 days and the colors were way off from what the caps showed. Ended up spending 80 bucks on a real set anyway. Anyone else fall for cheap art supplies and learn the hard way?

Colors being way off from the caps" is the worst part, that always gets me. I found out the hard way that cheap markers use different ink formulas that react bad with certain paper types, bleed everywhere or just turn muddy. The drying out after 3 days is painful too, I feel that.

Man, I used to think marker caps were just for show and the color on them was close enough. But after grabbing a cheap set last month and trying to match the cap to the paper, I totally get what you mean now. @sean782 you're spot on about the ink formulas being different, I had a purple that came out looking brown on cardstock. Worse part is I left the caps off for a day and three of them dried out completely, felt like a total waste of cash. Do you stick to certain brands now or just test everything first?
