Pro tip: pick a rollerball pen over a fine liner for quick dailies
I used to grab my 0.05 micron fineliners for every doodle but they kept drying out mid sketch at my desk in Austin. Switched to a $2 rollerball pen from the art supply bin and the ink flows so much smoother when I'm doing 5 minute gesture drawings. The tradeoff is less crisp detail but honestly for the daily dump it's way more forgiving. Anyone else find their quick sketches look better with a looser pen?

Man, I totally get that! But here's the thing, do you ever find yourself fighting the urge to add detail when the rollerball gives you that smooth flow? I switched years ago for the same reason, and now my quick sketches have this messy energy I actually like more than the clean stuff. The real question is, does that looseness ever trick you into thinking a bad drawing is good just because it looks effortless? Because I swear sometimes I confuse "fast and free" with "actually any good" when I look back at my sketchbook the next day.
