Question about doodling in pen only at the DMV on Tuesday
Everyone online says you have to sketch in pencil first so you can fix stuff, but I sat at the DMV on Tuesday for 2 hours waiting on my number and only had a cheap ballpoint on me. I ended up doodling the bored guy two seats over and the sad plant in the corner, and the mistakes in pen actually made the whole page look better. Now I carry one pen and nothing else, and my doodles have way more energy than the careful pencil ones. I mean, maybe it's just me, but erasing kills the fun. Has anyone else switched to pen only and never gone back?
Did you ever notice how a wobbly line can make a face look more alive than a perfect one? I used to be the person with a whole pencil case and a kneaded eraser, fussing over every mark until the drawing felt dead. Then I tried a pen only sketch of my cat sleeping on the couch, and when I messed up his ear I just drew over it, and somehow that messy ear looked more like him than any perfect version. Now I leave the pencil at home on purpose. The mistakes force me to keep moving instead of picking at one spot forever.
