The doodle stat that hit me: 92% of my sketches never get past the first 40 seconds
I started timing my doodles this week with the stopwatch on my phone, and out of 50 drawings, 46 of them got ditched before the 40 second mark. That means basically every time I sit down to sketch, I quit in under a minute and then wonder why my sketchbook looks empty. I think we all chase these clean finished pieces when the real stuff is just the fast junk that takes no thought at all. So now I'm forcing myself to draw for a full 90 seconds no matter how bad it looks, and page 12 today is a blob that looks like a potato with legs. How long do you all actually stick with a doodle before you bail on it?
Wondering what counts as bailing for you, like do you stop the timer when you set the pencil down or when you decide you hate it? Cause for me its usually the second one and that happens way before 40 seconds. Also how do you stop yourself from fixing the potato legs instead of just moving to the next page?
