TIL most people draw hands way too small on their figures

I was doodling my cat today and realized I always make his paws tiny compared to his body. Looked up some old anatomy sketches online and apparently the hand should be about the size of the face, not half of it lol. Anyone else catch themselves shrinking limbs without noticing?

Have you ever tried tracing your own hand and holding it up next to your sketch? That trick really helped me see where I was going wrong with proportions when I first started drawing people. It's such a simple fix but it made a huge difference in how natural my figures looked.

Man, that's a really solid tip. I can see how sitting there with your actual hand right next to the paper would make the mistakes obvious. Might have to give that a try myself, I always end up with fingers that look like sausages.
