Found out my dog's 'secret' stash of stolen socks dates back to 2021
I was cleaning behind the dryer and found a dusty, dated receipt for the first pack of the exact brand he always takes. Anyone else have a pet with a long-running, weird collection?

Always figured pets just grabbed whatever was close by, but a stash that organized shows some real long-term planning, huh?

My old cat had a thing for hair ties. We found over eighty of them under the living room couch when we moved, some so old the elastic was dust. It was like her secret retirement fund for rubber bands. She would just bat them under there for years and never bother to get them back out.

That "secret retirement fund" line from richard_anderson really got me. I always just saw my dog chewing socks as a dumb habit. But finding a stash that big means she was putting them away on purpose, not just losing them. It makes you see their little actions in a whole new light. I guess they really can plan ahead, even if it's just for a future hair tie hunt. Changes how I look at all the random stuff my pets hide.
