Hot take: That popular 'cat enrichment' trend isn't always helpful

I overheard someone at the vet's office saying their cat got stressed out by those cardboard puzzle feeders everyone raves about. My own cat just ignored them for three days straight until I threw the thing out. Has anyone else had their pet totally reject a supposedly 'must-have' enrichment toy?

Maybe your cat just wanted the cardboard box more than the puzzle.

Did you try leaving the puzzle feeder empty first? Cats sometimes need to get used to the object before they'll work for food inside it. My vet told me that smell and familiarity matter way more than the toy itself.
