My cat figured out how to open the pantry door yesterday
I came home from work and found a bag of cat treats shredded on the kitchen floor. At first I blamed the dog but then I saw my cat batting the pantry door handle. She jumped up and hooked her paw under it and pulled down until it clicked open. I never even thought she could reach that high, she's a short little thing. Now I have to install a childproof lock on the inside. Has anyone else dealt with a door-opening pet?

I mean, is it really that big of a deal though... my cat opens cabinets all the time and I just put a rubber band around the handles. It's not like she's going to start cooking for herself or anything. Plus, those childproof locks are a pain to deal with every time you want a snack.

Oh come on, you really think a rubber band is going to stop a determined cat? My buddy's cat learned how to push the band right off after a week. And you're complaining about childproof locks being a pain, but how much time do you actually spend opening cabinets for snacks compared to dealing with a cat who's figured out how to get into the ones with cleaning supplies or sharp objects? What happens when she figures out the pantry and starts tearing into bags of chips or worse, gets into something toxic like antifreeze thinking it's a treat?

Hate to say it but rubber bands can snap and become a choking hazard too.
