My cat just dragged a whole loaf of bread into the living room at 6am
She somehow snuck it off the counter without knocking anything over, dropped it right on my lap while I was still half asleep, then stared at me like I was supposed to toast it for her.

Did you read that article about how cats actually learn to steal food by watching their owners? I saw something on it a while back, said they pick up on what's valuable around the house. Your cat probably thought she was bringing you a prize or something, like a hunter dropping off a kill. Sounds like she's got good aim too, landing it right on your lap like that. Maybe she just wanted breakfast served early, which is basically all cats want anyway.
