My cat learned to open the pantry and now I need a toddler lock at 34
I came home Tuesday to find her sitting inside the treat bin like it was a throne, kibble scattered from the kitchen to the hall. I've had cats my whole life and none of them ever figured out a door handle, so I'm honestly a little proud and a lot annoyed. Any tips for outsmarting a cat who now knows how latches work?
Man, just let her have it. Cats are smart enough to figure out a latch, so locking them out of everything is a losing game, you will spend the next ten years playing jailer to an animal that already beat you once. The treat bin is the problem, not the door, so move the treats somewhere high and leave the pantry alone. If you really want to outsmart her, stop thinking like a cat owner and start thinking like the cat: she wants the payoff, so take away the payoff and the trick dies on its own. Slapping a toddler lock on there just tells her you are scared, and she will spend every night you are asleep working that thing out too. Let her strut around like she owns the place, just make sure the place she owns has nothing worth stealing.
