My cat taught me I was brushing her all wrong for 2 years
My sister watched me groom my tabby and said 'you're going against the fur growth, no wonder she hates it.' I switched to brushing in the direction her coat actually lays and now she purrs through the whole thing, has anyone else gotten surprising pet care tips from a family member?

2 years is insane honestly I can't believe you were brushing her backwards that whole time. My cat would have scratched my arm off if I did that for even one session. It's wild how we just don't notice these little things until someone points them out.

People are acting like brushing a cat backwards is some kind of abuse. It's just hair. The cat probably didn't even care that much if she was gentle about it. My cat just flops over no matter which way I brush her. Maybe some cats are more sensitive but this seems like a lot of drama over nothing. Cats are tough little animals, not porcelain dolls.

Oh wow, I never even thought about the direction thing until reading this. @the_linda I get what you're saying about cats being tough but maybe the difference is some cats get overstimulated faster than others and we just don't notice the smaller cues.
