My cat tried to adopt a garden statue last month
So last month, I got this little stone rabbit for my garden in the backyard. My cat, Mochi, saw it from the window and just lost his mind. He started crying at the door for like two days straight. I finally let him out, and he ran right to it, started rubbing his face all over the stone and trying to groom its ears. He even brought it a dead mouse and left it at the statue's feet as a gift. He'd sit next to it for hours, just purring. I had to move the rabbit to the front yard because Mochi was getting so sad when it wouldn't play with him. Has anyone else's pet ever gotten weirdly attached to an inanimate object?

Honestly that is both the saddest and sweetest thing I've ever heard. Tbh my old dog used to have a deep friendship with a traffic cone in our alley. He would just go sit by it and look so let down when it never followed him home. Ngl, moving the statue was probably the kindest thing, even if it broke Mochi's heart a little. Pets really do form the strangest bonds.

Oh man that traffic cone story got me. Did your dog ever try to bring it a toy or something, like trying to start a game with it? I wonder if pets see these objects as friends who are just really, really bad at playing back.
