My cat went from hiding under the bed to sleeping on my head in 3 months

When I adopted Luna last January she spent every day wedged behind the washing machine in my tiny Austin apartment, only coming out at 2am to eat. After 90 days of ignoring her completely and letting her set the pace, she now curls up on my pillow at 10pm sharp and purrs until I fall asleep. Did anyone else have a rescue pet that flipped a switch after a specific amount of time, or was mine just weirdly patient?

My neighbor's rescue dog took two years before he'd let anyone touch his paws, so I get it. Cats are worse about this stuff because they're basically tiny furry grudges with legs. Luna didn't flip a switch, she just finally decided you weren't a threat and that your head was warm enough to bother with. That's not patience on her part, that's her running a full background check on you and finding you acceptable. Don't overthink it, just enjoy the free purring alarm clock.
