The vet tech told me cats sleep 16 hours a day, now I feel bad waking mine at 7am
My cat Luna naps in the same sunny spot on the couch from 9am to 4pm, and after the tech at the clinic in Boise mentioned that 16 hour stat, I stopped feeling guilty about her being "lazy" - does anyone else rearrange their whole schedule around their pet's nap spots?
My sister's vet in Tucson actually told her the opposite, that healthy adult cats only really need 12 to 14 hours and the 16 hour number gets tossed around way too much. A cat sleeping 9 to 4 plus all night is closer to 18 hours, which can be a sign of boredom or even thyroid stuff in older cats. Rearranging your day around a nap spot sounds sweet, but it can also mean you're missing that she's got nothing to do all day, and a bored cat will find its own fun, usually on your curtains.
