The vet tech who made me rethink my cat's diet

I took my 9 year old tabby Milo in for his annual checkup last Thursday. The vet tech asked what I feed him and I said the same dry food I've been giving him for years. She told me most cats his age don't drink enough water and dry food can lead to kidney issues down the road. She suggested adding wet food to his diet gradually. I've been mixing in a tablespoon of wet food with his kibble for 5 days now and he actually eats it all up. Has anyone else had luck switching an older cat to wet food without them getting picky?

Read somewhere that adding warm water to dry food helps too.

Wait, WARM water? Like people are actually adding HOT water to cat food? That sounds like some gourmet soup situation for a cat. Is this a real thing or just internet nonsense?

You're just supposed to add a splash of warm water to dry food to soften it up for older cats.
