Warning: my cat knocked my keys into the toilet and now I have a new morning routine
So last Tuesday I was getting ready for work in my apartment in Austin, running late as usual. I had my keys in my hand while brushing my teeth, and my cat Muffin, who is obsessed with shiny things, jumped up on the sink and swatted them right into the open toilet. I watched in slow motion as they sank to the bottom. I panicked, fished them out with a hanger, and spent 20 minutes drying them with a hair dryer. They still smelled weird, so I soaked them in rice overnight. The next morning they worked fine, but now I keep them in a closed drawer. Muffin just stares at the drawer like she's planning her next move. Has anyone else's pet ever destroyed something important like that?
Does Muffin only go after shiny stuff, or is she an equal opportunity troublemaker with anything that moves? My roommate's ferret stole a whole set of car keys and hid them under the couch for three days, and we only found them because the jingling gave him away. If your cat is that focused on the drawer, you might want to baby proof it before she figures out how to slide it open.
