Why is everyone posting photos of their cat on a leash?

I keep seeing these pictures of cats walking around on harnesses and leashes. Is this really a thing now? My cat took three steps in a harness at Petsmart last Tuesday then just flopped over, so I'm genuinely curious how anyone gets their cat to actually walk.

You guys are getting your cats to actually walk? Mine just uses the leash as a fancy new way to drag me across the living room floor, lol.

Used to think leash training cats was just showing off for attention (which, okay, some people definitely do that). But then my buddy's cat actually bolts for the front door every chance it gets, and the harness has been a real lifesaver for letting it get fresh air without turning into a panicked sprint down the hallway.
