Hit exactly 10,000 steps for 30 days straight - didn't expect that small change in my commute

I park my car about a 10 minute walk from work to save on parking fees. Last month I counted the steps one day and it was 3,200 just for that round trip. I started adding a quick loop around the block during lunch and suddenly I was hitting 10,000 steps every day without even trying. After 30 days my legs felt less stiff and my back pain from sitting actually got better. Has anyone else noticed a specific number like that making a real difference in their day?

Gotta jump in here cause I noticed something off. 10,000 steps is a pretty round number that came from a Japanese marketing campaign in the 60s for a pedometer, not really based on hard science. But honestly, who cares if it's arbitrary? The real win is that you found a way to move more during your day and it helped your back pain. I've seen tons of clients complain about sitting all day and moving a bit more consistently does more for them than any fancy office chair ever could. Keep doing what works for you man, it's clearly making a difference even if the number itself is a bit made up.

Yeah for real, I started just pacing around my apartment during phone calls and it made a huge difference for my lower back. Even getting like 6k-8k steps a day instead of sitting for 8 hours straight took the edge off completely. The exact number doesn't matter as long as you're moving more than before.

@william_torres I see your point about the marketing thing, but I gotta disagree a little. 10,000 steps might be arbitrary, but it's a decent goal for most people who sit all day. Like, if someone told you to just walk more, you wouldn't know where to start. That round number gives you a target, and hitting it feels good. For me, it's easier to aim for something specific than to guess if I moved enough.
