I finally realized most people load the dishwasher wrong

My roommate always puts bowls facing up on the bottom rack, and I found out that traps food sludge in the lip during the cycle (gross, right?). After I flipped them upside down for two weeks straight, the dishwasher actually cleaned everything without me having to scrub bowls by hand first. Has anyone else noticed this one weird trick actually works better?
