Jiffy Lube in 2024 vs doing oil changes myself in my driveway in 2008
I just paid $95 for an oil change at the quick lube place near me in Austin. Back in 2008 I could do it in my own driveway for $22 with a jug of Castrol and a filter from AutoZone. Sure it took me an hour and I got grease on my jeans but at least I knew they didn't forget the drain plug. Now I sit in a waiting room for 45 minutes watching a dusty TV and praying they don't strip my pan. Has anyone else switched back to DIY after getting burned on price or service?

And this is just one more thing that's slowly gotten worse across the board, not just car maintenance. It's like everything that used to be simple and cheap now costs more and takes longer but gives you less control or satisfaction. You pay a premium for convenience but end up feeling ripped off either way, so I don't blame anyone for going back to doing it themselves.
