Just learned the average car has over 30,000 parts and I can't stop thinking about it
I was reading a car forum last night and some guy mentioned that a typical vehicle has somewhere around 30,000 individual components. Now every time I start my engine I just picture all those tiny pieces somehow working together and it feels like a miracle my 2005 Corolla even starts at all. Has anyone else ever stumbled on a random fact that made you look at something totally different?

Have you actually tried counting the number of times a modern PC crashes versus how often your Corolla leaves you stranded? Keep a can of starter fluid in the glovebox and you'll be fine.

Wait, is 30,000 really that impressive when you think about it? I mean, a computer has billions of transistors and nobody's amazed their phone turns on. A lot of those "parts" are just screws, bolts, and plastic clips that basically do nothing interesting. My buddy builds custom PCs and he'd laugh at comparing a car's complexity to a modern smartphone. Not trying to be a downer but 30,000 pieces isn't some engineering miracle, it's just what happens when you stick a motor on wheels with 100 years of "improvements" nobody bothered to simplify.
