My $18 coffee grinder died after 3 weeks, back to smashing beans with a hammer

Got that cheap burr grinder from Target on clearance, thought I was being smart. Third morning in a row it just stopped mid-grind, made this awful whining noise like a dying squirrel. Took it apart and the plastic gear inside was shredded, not even 15 cups total. Has anyone else had luck with a decent grinder under $50, or am I doomed to pour-over pre-ground forever?
