Overheard a cashier say 'self-checkout is faster' and I had to laugh
Standing in line at the Kroger on 5th Street yesterday, this guy tells his friend that self-checkout saves him 10 minutes every trip. I used to think the same until I hit that stupid scale error with a bag of oranges and waited 12 minutes for a clerk to reset it. Now I count the line length before I choose, and honestly the regular lanes with a real person beat the machines every time. Anyone else notice the self-checkout only wins when you've got like 3 items or less?

Man that scale thing is the worst, it always happens with the most random stuff too. Same here though, I'll take the human line every time unless it's like a soda and a bag of chips.

Scales do that weird thing where they're always off by a little, not a lot, so you don't notice until you're at the register. Actually, the barcode readers at self-checkout are way more reliable these days, but the weight sensor seems to act up if your bag touches the side. Ever tried putting your stuff back in the cart first? That usually fixes it for me.
