Spent $80 on a fancy salt lamp, now it sits in my closet
Bought one of those Himalayan salt lamps thinking it would improve my mood or whatever, but it just sits there collecting dust while I still get annoyed at slow walkers on the sidewalk. Has anyone else fallen for a trendy item that did absolutely nothing for you?

Ugh, the salt lamp. I bought one because everyone was saying it "cleanses the air" and makes you calm. I figured I'd come home from work, light it up, and instantly feel zen. Instead I just had a pinkish glow illuminating my pile of laundry I still didn't fold. My friend swore it helped her sleep, but I kept accidentally knocking it over trying to reach for my phone charger. It's probably still in the back of my coat closet somewhere with a layer of dust that isn't giving off any calming vibes.

Oh wait hold on, the air cleaning part is a total myth. Salt lamps don't actually do anything to clean the air. They just sit there looking warm and orange. The whole thing about releasing negative ions is mostly marketing fluff. Real negative ion generators need way more power than a little lamp bulb can provide. So you weren't wrong about it not working, you just expected it to do something it was never going to do.
