Tried saving money on laundry detergent and ruined four shirts

I bought a generic brand of laundry pods from the discount store near my apartment last week because they were $6.99 for a huge bag. Three washes later my white shirts came out with these weird gray streaks that won't come off no matter what I do. Has anyone else had a cheap detergent mess up their clothes like this or am I just unlucky?

Did you see that thing online about cheap detergent having some kind of filler that leaves residue? I heard it can clog up your washer too. Were they the liquid pods or the powder ones?

Heard from my friend Sarah she used the powder kind from some dollar store brand and her washer started making this grinding noise after like 3 months. The repair guy said it was caked up with filler or whatever, had to take the whole drum apart to clean it out. She switched to liquid pods after that and no problems.
