Bought a $28 avocado slicer at the mall in Boise and it's the dumbest thing I own

I saw this thing at a kitchen store in the Boise Towne Square mall and the demo guy made it look so easy that I handed over $28. Got home, tried it on one avocado, and it just mashed the whole thing into green goo because my avocados were too ripe. A butter knife and a spoon have worked fine for my entire life, so now it sits in the drawer and I see it every single time I make toast. Has anyone actually found a gadget like this that works, or do we all just have one junk drawer item we regret?
