Debate: Did my 6 AM walks actually help, or was it just the weather change?

Started walking every morning 3 months ago. Felt more energetic, slept better, all that. But then winter hit here in Minneapolis. Now I'm dragging again. Was it really the walking, or was I just riding that fall weather high? My sister swears by morning walks year-round. She says I just need to bundle up. But I live where it hits -20. So what do you think, is the walk the win, or just the nice temps making me feel good?

umar59 pretty much nailed it. Those nice fall mornings were doing the heavy lifting, not the act of walking itself. Once you factor in subzero temps and scraping frost off your eyelids, your body's gonna respond like it's being punished, which defeats the whole purpose. Your sister's tough, but most people aren't built for a -20 commute on foot if they don't have to be. You might just be a three-seasons walker, and that's fine.

Oh honey, are we really framing a morning stroll as some sort of life-changing event? It sounds like you just enjoyed the nice weather a few months ago. Now it's cold and you're realizing that getting out of a warm bed at 6 AM in a Minnesota winter is its own special kind of misery. If your sister wants to bundle up and frostbite her face, more power to her, but let's not pretend a walk is curing anything that a good cup of coffee and a warm house can't fix. Just sleep in and stop overthinking it.
