Finally got my sourdough starter to pass the float test after 9 days.

It was a sad, flat mess for over a week. Then I moved it to the top of my fridge for more consistent warmth. Now it bubbles up and floats in water every time. What's your go-to spot for keeping a starter happy?

Moving it to the fridge top is smart. I had the same flat starter problem. My oven with just the light on was too hot and killed it. I ended up putting mine on a shelf above a heat vent, but not too close. That steady, gentle warmth made all the difference. It just needed a cozy spot, not a hot one.

Cozy spot" for a starter? It's just flour and water, not a pet. People act like it needs a nursery. Mine lives on the counter and it's fine.

Honestly, I read somewhere that a lot of people have good luck with their microwave. Not running it, just keeping the starter inside with the door closed. It blocks drafts and stays a bit warmer than the counter. Tbh my kitchen is always cold so I might try that next time.
